Since its establishment in 1861, The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of Boston has served individuals and families facing hardship throughout the Archdiocese of Boston through person-to-person service, community outreach, and acts of compassion that restore hope and dignity. Guided by our commitment to help those in need, our volunteers work directly with neighbors experiencing financial difficulties, food insecurity, housing challenges, and other life hardships.
Through local parish conferences, thrift store operations, charitable programs, and dedicated volunteer efforts, we provide practical assistance while treating every person with respect and understanding. Together with our donors, volunteers, and community partners, we continue a longstanding tradition of service that strengthens communities, supports families, and offers hope to those facing difficult circumstances. Every act of generosity helps us make a meaningful difference—one person, one family, and one community at a time.
Founded in 1833 by a group of young Catholic students led by Blessed Frédéric Ozanam in Paris, France, the Society began with a simple goal: to put faith into action through service to those in need.
What sets the SVDP apart is our person-to-person approach through listening, understanding, and responding with compassion.
