We understand that reaching out for assistance can feel overwhelming. At The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of Boston, our goal is to make the process as comfortable, respectful, and supportive as possible.
When you contact us, you will be treated with dignity, compassion, and confidentiality. Every situation is unique, and our volunteers take the time to listen and understand your circumstances before determining how we may be able to help.
Your First Contact
The first step is simply reaching out.
You can contact us through our website or through one of our local, parish-based conferences. A Vincentian will review your request and gather information about your situation and needs.
Our goal is not to judge or criticize. We are here to listen and understand how we can best support you.
A Conversation About Your Needs
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of Boston believes in a person-to-person approach to assistance. Rather than treating people like case numbers, we strive to build meaningful relationships and understand the challenges individuals and families are facing.
During the process, you may be asked questions about:
- Your current situation
- Household needs
- Financial challenges
- Housing concerns
- Utility or food assistance needs
- Other circumstances affecting your family
This information helps us identify available resources and determine the most appropriate assistance.
Every Situation Is Different
Because resources and programs vary by location, assistance is evaluated on an individual basis. Not every request can be fulfilled, but we will do our best to connect you with available support and community resources.
Depending on your circumstances, assistance may include:
- Food assistance
- Financial assistance
- Fuel or utility assistance
- Referrals to community programs
- Access to affordable clothing through our thrift stores
- Information about housing, healthcare, employment, and other support services

Sometimes the best assistance comes through a community partner or public program. If we are unable to provide direct support, we may connect you with organizations and agencies that can help meet your needs.
